CartoVista Viewer

What's new in the CartoVista 3.5 Viewer?

The CartoVista Viewer is the web-based component of the CartoVista solution, which can be deployed on the web (Intranet/Internet) or even locally on a CD-ROM or other media. It has a comprehensive collection of interactive controls that allow the user to perform advanced thematic analysis and display strategic data in innovative and meaningful ways.

The viewer consists of the CartoVista SWF, a Flash executable and an HTML file to act as a container. As a Flash application, the CartoVista Viewer requires only that Adobe Flash Player (Version 10.1 or later) is installed on the user’s computer to run.

Advanced Thematic Mapping

The CartoVista Viewer enables the display of indicators that are key to your business using user-friend interactive thematics. With a few mouse clicks, you can create colorful thematic maps to visualize and identify patterns and trends in your data. These thematic maps allow you to be more effective in your business while sharing geographic knowledge throughout your organization.

The analysis capabilities of the CartoVista Viewer help you compare data values graphically using high quality cartographic representations. With the CartoVista Viewer, the user can create dynamic thematic analyses and have full control over the styles settings (colors, symbols, number of ranges, etc.).

High Quality Cartography

Maps in the CartoVista Viewer are designed with vector graphics that are fully optimized for fast loading in your web browser while maximizing the level of interactivity. Maps can include one or more interactive layers that respond to mouse events to help understand the data and the analysis being displayed.

Maps for the viewer are generated using the CartoVista Publisher, a desktop application that can read common GIS data formats. When vector layers are converted from their original GIS format to the CartoVista Flash output (SWF), the output is optimized in terms of size to enable an effective display in a web environment.

Work with existing maps

CartoVista maps are constructed from common Geographic Information System (GIS) vector data (ESRI Shape, MapInfo Table, etc.) using the CartoVista Publisher.,The publisher includes the capabilities to configure advanced layer cartographic styles (symbol, color, labeling, etc.).

With the CartoVista tiling engine, content managers and GIS professionals can also leverage existing map tile providers, such as Google, Bing or Yahoo Maps. This allows users to publish interactive maps in a few minutes. Working with existing base maps speeds up map deployments and allows more time to be spent on setting up the interactivity of relevant business layers.

Simple Web or Local Deployments

The CartoVista Viewer runs in your web browser using Adobe Flash® Player software or on the desktop on Adobe AIR™, the cross-operating system runtime. This enables the CartoVista solution to run consistently across all major browsers and on the desktop. For web deployments, there are no specific server requirements; CartoVista maps can be deployed on any type of web server.

Therefore maps can be deployed quickly on your own intranet or on the Internet without having an impact on your IT and web server infrastructure.

Open-Ended and Extendable Components

The CartoVista solution is built with an open XML format for the configuration of the software and its thematic data. Using XML makes it simple and straightforward for developers and users to store, create or update the application data. In addition to its open-ended XML architecture, the software includes a Software Development Kit (SDK) for Adobe.

In addition, the Adobe Flex technology includes a large collection of components to create rich internet applications (RIAs). The combination of CartoVista and Adobe Flex empowers GIS and IT developers to create and publish dashboard deployments with unparalleled interactivity.
