What is the CartoVista Publisher?

It allows you to generate maps and data files integrated in the CartoVista Viewer to create various projects useful to your organization.


What GIS format does CartoVista Publisher support?

Data from MapInfo (TAB) as well as ESRI (Shapefile) can be used in the CartoVista Publisher.


What is the format of the data published with CartoVista Publisher?

CartoVista Publisher generates maps in SWF format and statistical data in XML format to be displayed by CartoVista Viewer. The CartoVista data format (Indicators) is a simple tabular format allowing easy integration.


Which languages are supported by CartoVista Publisher?

CartoVista Publisher is available in English and French.


Is it possible to use CartoVista Publisher to modify GIS data?

CartoVista Publisher has a lot of parameters available to change the visual aspects of the maps. However, GIS data geometries cannot be modified. To be able to apply changes (for instance, adding a polygon), a geographic information system (GIS) like MapInfo or ArcGIS is required.


What system configuration is required to install CartoVista Publisher?

CartoVista Publisher can be installed on any computer that runs Windows 98 (or later versions), with 100 Mb of free space.

What is a thematic map?

It is a map in which regions are colored according to the values of the statistical variable associated with that region, such as population density or product sales. Thematic maps are an easy way to show how the values change throughout geographical regions.


What is the best way to learn about the thematic functionalities and the tools available within CartoVista Viewer?

Which languages are supported in CartoVista Viewer?

By default, CartoVista Viewer is available in English, French and Spanish. It is also easy to add more languages and to localize the terms used in the application for the indicators, categories and map layers.


Which browsers are supported by CartoVista Viewer?

CartoVista Viewer can be used with the most popular browsers as long as Adobe Flash Player version 9 or more is installed. As an example, Microsoft Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox have an Adobe Flash Player ActiveX/plugin that can be installed to display rich internet applications.


Which version of Adobe Flash Player can be used to execute CartoVista Viewer?

It is recommended to always install the latest version of the Flash Player to benefit from the latest Adobe updates in terms of performance and security. Note that the optimal version to run CartoVista Viewer is 9.0.124.


Which configuration is required to deploy a CartoVista application?

For a web deployment, you will need a web server like IIS on Windows or Apache on Linux. It is really simple to deploy CartoVista Viewer as there is no special configuration required on the server. It is only a question of copying specific files and folders onto the web server. CartoVista Viewer can also be deployed locally on a PC or on a media like CD-ROM, DVD or a USB key for instance.


Is it possible to customize a CartoVista application?

The flexible architecture of the CartoVista solution provides various options to customize CartoVista applications. CartoVista Publisher allows users to totally control the cartographic aspect of the solution. It allows you to generate styles for labeling your map, etc. The XML configuration file for CartoVista Viewer enables you to adjust a wide variety of parameters (tool list, ...) to control the display at loading time. Furthermore, the API for CartoVista 2.0 for FLEX and JavaScript offers unlimited possibilities to create richer interactive internet applications.
