Vector Mapping at its Best!

Vector Mapping

CartoVista leverages the graphics quality of Flash to create simple and effective thematic mapping.

As Flash graphics are expressed in vector format, the interface display is independent of the user screen size and resolution. Maps stored in Flash are highly compressed while preserving all of the layers, individual objects and styles. CartoVista includes options to fully control the display, transparency and labeling of each layer in a map.

Smaller map files reduce download times compared to bitmapped (raster) graphics while allowing for optimal rendering and printing. Once maps are downloaded, they are cached by the browser so that they load faster in subsequent visits. Maps stored in the Flash format (.swf) include advanced support for cartographic styles, symbology and labeling. Using font embedding, maps are not limited only to fonts available on the end-user computer.

Map Labeling

Map Labeling

CartoVista's robust labeling engine creates meaningful, crystal-clear maps. With advanced support for text font styles and overlap detection, maps are labeled dynamically to ensure proper rendering at all scales. CartoVista maps can use graphic symbols (swf) as a background for labeling. For example, road layers (lines) can be labeled with shields symbols to create atlas-quality cartographic outputs.

Raster Images

Raster Images

CartoVista includes the possibility to include raster images as part of the Flash map layers. This is very useful to add contextual layers such as satellite imagery or relief to create a greater visual impact and user experience.

Zoom Layering

Zoom Layering

CartoVista maps support the concept of zoom layering to only display certain layer at specific scale. Zoom layering is very useful to simplify maps and not overwhelm the end-user with too many details.
